From grand gowns to delicate dresses, explore centuries of wedding fashion with this new exhibition of movie costumes and family heirlooms. Showcased in Biltmore House, award-winning costumes from iconic movies including Sense and Sensibility, Pride and Prejudice, and Out of Africa are paired with exquisite floral designs complementing each film’s era. The exhibition continues in Antler Hill Village with stories of Vanderbilt and Cecil weddings, along with the first-ever display of the wedding veil worn by Jacqueline Kennedy and other family members.

This year, in addition to majestic sweeps of flowers coloring acres of gardens, America’s largest home embraces this season of new beginnings with the special exhibition Fashionable Romance: Wedding Gowns in Film, included in Biltmore admission.

A Gardener’s Place Seminars - Spring

Please join us in A Gardener’s Place Gift Shop, located beneath the Conservatory, for daily free demonstrations featuring gardening and floral topics.

 

Spring Demonstrations:


1:00 p.m. -  Enchanted Fairy Gardens
Miniature plantscapes delight gardeners both young and old. Tips will be provided on how to fashion one yourself.


2:00 p.m. -  Say 'I Do' to Orchids
Discover which orchids are the simplest to grow and re-bloom. Also, be in the know on particular insights regarding orchids for bouquets.

Sunday, March 20 - Monday, August 29 — Offered on select dates. Activity lasts approximately one hour.

Complimentary Handicrafts at Antler Hill Barn

Overnight guests only.

Children ages 4 to 12 can learn traditional Appalachian crafts and make a toy or souvenir to take home with them at our handicrafts sessions at Antler Hill Barn. Crafts such as off-loom weaving, creating corn shuck dolls, quilt design, and limber jacks (a folk instrument) were popular during the time of the Vanderbilts. Our instructors continue to keep these traditions alive.

 

Available Thursday – Monday, March 19 - April 4, and Thursday – Monday in July and August.

Sunday, March 20 - Saturday, December 31 — Offered Thurs. - Sun. Activity lasts approximately 1.5 hours.

Guided Hike

Overnight guests (complimentary) & Passholders ($10 per person) only.

Explore the East Side of the estate with an insider’s perspective on this complimentary guided hike. Hikes cover both paved and unpaved terrain and are suitable for beginner to intermediate hikers. Meet your hike leader at the entrance of the Outdoor Adventure Center.
Hiking trips are Thursday and Friday at 7:30 a.m. and Saturday and Sunday at 10 a.m.

Cornelia Vanderbilt Cecil Anniversary Tribute

$75 per person.

This special evening commemorates the April 29, 1924 Cornelia Vanderbilt’s wedding at The Cathedral of All Souls, which was built by her father George W. Vanderbilt and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The tribute includes a choir performance in the decorated sanctuary, followed by a reception with cake, sparkling wine, and historic photos.

 

A portion of the ticket proceeds benefits the project to restore the cathedral’s distinctive terra cotta roof tiles and its 1971 Casavant organ.

Jacqueline: The Making of A Celebrated Newport Bride

Join Karen Kelleher Bacon, writer and co-producer of the PBS documentary Jackie: Behind the Myth for a unique seminar on Jacqueline Lee Bouvier and her life before she married Jack Kennedy. The connection between the Vanderbilts, Cecils, and Kennedys will also be shared along with the story behind a special family wedding veil now on display at Biltmore. An optional film screening of Ms. Bacon’s documentary is included.
