Time-honored traditions are kept alive by our handicrafts instructors’ enthusiasm and expertise as they provide children ages 4 to 12 the opportunity to make a special toy or souvenir to take home! Crafting projects change daily, and include traditional crafts reminiscent of Biltmore, the Vanderbilt era, or the Appalachian region.

 

Demonstrations offered continuously throughout the day between hours noted, and last between 10 and 15 minutes. For children ages 4-12 with an accompanying adult.

Stroll acres of formal and informal gardens designed by America’s foremost landscape architect, Frederick Law Olmsted. From the beauty of the Italian Garden to the breathtaking trees in America’s first managed forest, Biltmore’s lush landscape is a living tribute to the genius of Olmsted, who also designed Central Park in New York City.

Descend the back stairs to explore servant life at Biltmore. Visit the domains of the butler, head housekeeper, and lady’s maid, then continue on to a suite of guest rooms to learn about grand house parties hosted by the Vanderbilts.

Take a motor coach tour of the estate and learn about the history of the land, structures, and former residents while visiting areas not usually open to guests.

Experience the grounds at your own pace with nearly 22 miles of hiking trails. Enjoy a walk along the French Broad River, through lush green forests, or in the open meadows of the estate. Stop by the Bike Barn or Outdoor Adventure Center for a detailed trail map and orientation.

Two-hour experiences cover the basics of expedition-style driving while allowing additional time for you to increase your knowledge and ability to create a more memorable off-road adventure.

Featuring some of the area’s finest musicians, our live jazz evenings offer the perfect opportunity to cozy up with a cocktail and recount the highlights of your day at Biltmore.

See how science and nature intersect as you learn about the estate’s vineyards, discover the unique factors that affect grapes grown in North Carolina, and delve into the craft of fermentation. This guided tour concludes with a tasting of Biltmore wines in a private setting.

Biking

Explore the estate from a different perspective on our many miles of biking trails. Choose from our well-marked woodland trails for a more challenging ride, or take a leisurely ride on our paved trail along the French Broad River. Bring your own bike or rent one from us at the Bike Barn.

This guided ride on the more technical Deerpark Trail takes you on both paved and off-road surfaces all the way to the South Terrace of Biltmore House.

Treat yourself to a relaxing journey and breathtaking views of Biltmore’s scenery on an 8-passenger wagonette drawn by Belgian draft horses. One child 5 years and younger free per paying adult.

This fun and entertaining tour is narrated by Cedric, the Vanderbilts’ Saint Bernard. Cedric guides kids through amazing rooms in Biltmore House, sharing stories about the Vanderbilts and living in America’s largest home.

Learn the basics of casting and then fish from a drift boat in the Lagoon with an amazing view of Biltmore House in the background.

Learn the basics of fly-fishing and casting, including equipment, fly presentation, landing the fish, fly selection, and knots from our expert guides, and then practice your new skills from a drift boat in the Lagoon.

Kids can enjoy a two-hour spin fishing lesson in the Lagoon or Long Valley Lake with a fishing instructor.

Choose between a single or tandem kayak and embark on a private, peaceful self-guided trip down the gentle French Broad River.

Enjoy amazing views while testing your balance with a guided stand up paddle board trip down a gentle three-mile stretch of the French Broad River. Stand up paddle boarding is a fun and relaxing way to experience the river and can also provide a high-energy workout.

On this guided tour, get a closer look at the design and construction of Biltmore House in areas not on the regular house visit—including stunning views and photo ops from the rooftop and balconies.

Enjoy a guided wade trip on local rivers stocked with trout. Lunch from an estate restaurant is included. Trip lasts approx. 8 hours.

Explore the estate’s East Side with an insider’s perspective on this moderate- to fast-paced guided hike through wooded areas on dirt-packed trails. Meet your Trail Blazers hike leader at the Outdoor Adventure Center. Wear comfortable clothing and closed toe shoes; active wear is available at The Marble Lion retail shop within The Inn and at Antler Hill Outfitters in Antler Hill Village. Hike lasts between 1 and 1.5 hours.

Biltmore’s exciting new exhibition showcases breathtaking large-scale glass sculptures in an equally breathtaking setting: the historic gardens of America’s Largest Home®. The vibrant colors and organic shapes that distinguish Chihuly’s dramatic creations are captivating presented within Biltmore’s artfully designed landscapes. The sculptures' placement in the gardens offers an intriguing juxtaposition of the master works of two consummate artists—premier American artist Dale Chihuly and revered Biltmore landscape designer Frederick Law Olmsted.

Biltmore House & Gardens will open to the public for special viewings of Chihuly’s stunning large-scale glass sculptures after dark. Chihuly Nights at Biltmore—by reservation only—is an enchanting opportunity to witness the effects of dramatic nighttime lighting upon the luminous colors and graceful forms of these spectacular installations. Sunset over the majestic Blue Ridge Mountains, live music in the gardens, and a wine bar make the evening experience all the more enticing.
