Dreams of Sunny Flowers
When to Plant Summer Bulbs
Invest a little time in the garden this spring and you'll enjoy gorgeous rewards come summer. After the last frost, you may plant summer bulbs, such as the spectacular dahlia. Gladiolus and lilies are excellent choices, too.
Helpful Tips:
- Plant summer flowering bulbs and tubers AFTER the last frost date in your area.
- Quality bulbs and well drained soil are the two most important ingredients to a successful summer garden.
- Summer bulbs require a great deal of water immediately after planting. The soil in your garden should be continually moist.
- Sprouting is healthy; plants are anxious to get into the ground again.
- Additional fertilizer is not necessary for summer flowering bulbs and tubers.
Be sure to store bulbs in a dry storage space away from cold, heat or sunlight until time to plant. Often times, the perfect place could be in an unheated closet that stays cool or a utility room where the household heat is weak.
