This gilded volume is one of a 31-volume set titled, “History of Holland House,” that contains letters, prints, etchings and drawings spanning British history from the mid-1500s through the late 19th century, including original correspondence from Queen Elizabeth I, Napoleon, Lafayette and Lord Byron. The volumes were collected originally at England’s Holland House, a gathering place for some of Britain’s most famous thinkers, leaders and philosophers. This book and other rarely seen objects from the Vanderbilt collection will be on display in The Vanderbilts at Home and Abroad, a new exhibition opening at Biltmore on April 7, 2012.
